The Last Lantern
We arrived at the lantern festival 15 till 8pm. The festival was supposed to be between 6-8. As we walked to Ala Moana beach park we were flooded by a sea of people going in the opposite direction. We were like salmon swimming up current. We got to the beach where people had put their lanterns in the water. I took off my TOMS and waded in the water attempting to take a few pictures of the lanterns in the distance being collected by the outrigger canoes. We would so be fired if we were supposed to be shooting the event. All of a sudden out of the darkness came a Kahu led by a man in an aloha shirt with a flashlight. "Get the picture!" My friend said. As I quickly adjusted my shutter speed I got the shot of the last lanterns being put in the water and a Kahu saying goodbye.

Tsunami #2. It's late. It's early. 3:28am the wave should have been here half an hour ago. Made pancakes for the roommates and their friends. There's waves of freaking out and crying. I'm tired. I just want to go to sleep and not work tomorrow. I think this just goes to show us a couple things- how everything we know can be gone in just seconds and it shows us what's really important...

An "uneventful" night turns out to be quite refreshing as I finally get to cook with a little music on (Kings of Convenience). At first the lack of company gets to me but I actually got to read a book, write and reflect a little. Organic Beef-broccoli somehow turns out spectacular and I know I need all the good calories I can get. A little meditation on a bike ride around diamond head finished it off. I tend to fall asleep if I just sit, pray and think but on a bike it's a different story. With the stars shining, street lights buzzing and cool wind blowing through my hair there's nothing better.

There is something about being in the ocean
Cold, clear, pristine
Littered with hidden treasures
If there was such a thing as an afterlife, a reincarnation,
I think I'd live in the sea, I'd be-
Something that could breath in the fathoms below
Something that could see everything in the depths crystal clear
Something fast of course to satisfy my need for speed
In the old days people seemed to believe in mythological creatures
I'm not sure if it was because they actually existed and then the rise of man led to extinction or-
If they existed because of misunderstandings and imagination
Although there is no empirical proof of these creatures
If in a past life they really existed, maybe I was born of the water
